Overview
The Certificate II in Civil Construction is the entry point into the civil construction industry. It gives you the core skills to work safely and productively as part of a civil construction crew on roads, drainage, earthworks and infrastructure projects.
Who it’s for
School leavers, career changers and new entrants who want to start work in civil construction, as well as existing labourers looking to formalise their skills.
What you’ll learn
- Working safely and following WHS policies on a civil construction site
- Communicating and working in a team
- Reading and interpreting plans and specifications
- Using hand and power tools
- Basic levelling and site set-out
- Elective areas including drainage, concreting, traffic control and assisting plant operations
This qualification is made up of 12 units of competency (8 core and 4 elective).
Delivery and duration
Delivered face-to-face at our Bradfield facility, with practical training in our yard and on-site where arranged with employers. Typical duration is 12 weeks full-time, or up to 12 months as a traineeship.
Entry requirements
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Construction Induction Card (White Card), or willingness to obtain one before practical training
- Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to read site documents and follow safety instructions (an LLN assessment is completed at enrolment)
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- Steel-capped boots and appropriate PPE for practical sessions
Pathways
Graduates may progress to RII30926 Certificate III in Civil Construction or RII30826 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations. Job roles may include civil construction labourer, trades assistant or pipe layer’s assistant.
