Overview
The Certificate IV in Civil Construction is for experienced workers moving into supervisory roles. It develops the skills to plan and coordinate civil works, lead a crew, manage site safety and quality, and communicate with clients, engineers and contractors.
Who it’s for
Leading hands, foremen and experienced civil construction workers who are supervising crews or preparing to, and Certificate III graduates ready to take the next step.
What you’ll learn
- Implementing WHS and environmental management on site
- Supervising civil works and coordinating crews and plant
- Planning, scheduling and monitoring work activities
- Interpreting plans, specifications and quality requirements
- Communicating with stakeholders and managing site documentation
- Electives in areas such as excavation and earthworks supervision, road and drainage works, risk management and leading teams
This qualification is made up of 13 units of competency (5 core and 8 elective).
Delivery and duration
Delivered as a blended program with scheduled workshops at our Bradfield facility, self-paced learning and workplace-based assessment, designed to fit around full-time work. Typical duration is 12 months.
Entry requirements
- At least two years’ experience working in civil construction
- A Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent industry experience
- Current employment in civil construction, with access to a workplace for assessment
- Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to prepare work plans and site documentation (an LLN assessment is completed at enrolment)
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Pathways
Job roles may include civil construction supervisor, site foreman, leading hand or works coordinator. Graduates may go on to diploma-level study in civil construction management.
